1.4542 is one of the most popular and widely used stainless chromium-nickel alloy steels with added copper, precipitation hardened with a martensitic structure. It is characterized by high corrosion resistance while maintaining high strength properties, including hardness. Steel can be operated in the temperature range from -29 to 343 while maintaining relatively good parameters. In addition, the materials of this grade are characterized by relatively good ductility and their corrosion resistance is comparable to 1.4301 / X5CrNi18-10. As this is a precipitation hardened steel, it should be used after it has become oversaturated and aged. In the delivery condition + A, the products do not have a martensitic structure, which leads to a significantly lower corrosion resistance. Steel can be welded with TIG, but the welding process requires the use of an annealed material. Otherwise, the material at the joints will not maintain the correct structure. In addition, the products can be nitrided at the expense of a small loss in corrosion resistance to obtain a hardened top layer 1.4542 and X5CrNiCuNb16-4 / 1.4542 is provided in the form of round bars, flat sheet bars and cold rolled strips, among other things.
