The main alloying component of the alloy 30hgsa is chromium. It increases heat resistance, corrosion and oxidation resistance, strength, and heat treatability of the steel. Manganese increases the strength, improves hardenability, impact toughness and reduces warping during hardening. At the same time, it increases grain growth and reduces plasticity. Silicon increases elasticity but at the same time reduces toughness. Nickel and copper contribute with insignificant amounts of 0.3% each to increase hardness, wear resistance, and structural homogeneity. Nickel, manganese, chromium, and carbon increase the strength of the steel during cooling.
The melting point is 1500 °C. It determines the difficulties in casting and the high-temperature resistance.
Corrosion resistance is low. Prolonged exposure to high humidity can lead to surface corrosion. This property should be considered when selecting alloyed steels. In some cases, corrosion resistance is increased by galvanic coating of the surface with zinc and chromium. The electrolysis process is applied to obtain such a surface.
