AISI 446 is a stainless steel with excellent resistance to oxidation, sulfidation and other forms of hot corrosion. The material 1.4762 is a heat-resistant alloy with a high chromium content. This material has a high temperature resistance and is generally used between 815 and 1150 °C. AISI 446 is the only heat resistant alloy that can tolerate molten copper. The 1.4762 alloy also exhibits severe brittleness in the temperature range of 370 to 540 °C, like other high chromium ferritic stainless steels.

AISI 466 has excellent corrosion resistance compared to other steels because it contains more chromium. AISI 446 grade stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel that offers good resistance to oxidation and corrosion at high temperatures.

AISI 466 grade stainless steel can be easily welded using most conventional methods. Type 308 welding material can be used, but does not have uniform resistance to the base material. The different thermal expansion coefficients of the substrate and weld metal must be taken into account.
