Description:
The material 1.4542 is one of the newest types of stainless steel that were found in the 1960s. This alloy is written as 1.4542 or X5CrNiCuNb16-4 or 17-4 PH according to the EN standard and UNS S17400 according to the UNS standard. The material 1.4542 is a very special alloy due to its mechanical properties. The yield strength and tensile strength are both usually higher than 1000 MPA and if we compare this alloy to the famous 304 alloy we can understand how strong this alloy is. For alloy 304 the yield strength is around 300 Mpa, but for 630 (1.4542) the yield strength is over 1000 Mpa. If we again compare the stainless steel grade 1.4542 with 304, the corrosion resistance is almost the same. The material 1.4542 has good corrosion resistance and also has very high mechanical properties. 17-4 PH stainless steel is a precipitation hardening stainless steel and is also called PH 17-4 or 17-4 PH because of the precipitation hardening.
The material 1.4542 is normally used in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, in the petrochemical industry and in the petroleum industry.
