Tungsten Wire Ø0.008mm-6.35mm W 99.95% Pure Metal Element 74 Tungsten Pure Wire
Length tolerance +/-2mm
ATTENTION: The wire is either shipped on a different spool or wound on a reel. If you require a spool, please contact us - we will send the wire on a spool for an additional charge. The photo shows spools with 2-3 kg of wire.
Description:
Tungsten wires are characterised by their robustness, in particular by the highest melting point of all metals and the highest tensile strength. This makes a thin tungsten wire very efficient. The high density of 19.3 x water, comparable to that of uranium and gold, is also remarkable. This high density also means a high absorption capacity for radioactive radiation and X-rays.
Tungsten is used wherever high temperatures are required. In the literature, temperatures between 3387 and 3422 °C can be found. Temperatures of approx. 5555 °C are required to boil tungsten. Depending on its diameter, tungsten wire achieves high mechanical strength. It also has a very high rigidity and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Tungsten is paramagnetic, i.e. it is attracted by a magnet but is not magnetic itself.
Properties of tungsten wire:
- Very high melting point and low vapour pressure
- Very high density
- Very high heat resistance
- good corrosion resistance in acids and molten metals
- low thermal expansion
Main areas of application for tungsten wire:
- Filaments for lamps
- X-ray tube anodes
- electrical switching contacts
- heating conductors
- shields
- thermocouple
