The material 1.4310 is a weaker version of 1.4301. Due to the combination of high chromium and limited nickel content, it has a metastatic austenitic structure which hardens very quickly during cold forming. As this steel is used for the manufacture of spring components, the final microstructure contains a significant amount of martensite due to shearing and is therefore relatively magnetic.

1.4310 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and formability. This steel with average machinability and mechanical properties has excellent weldability.

The main areas of application are the automotive industry, various corrosion-resistant spring components, the chemical industry, the food and beverage industry and electronic equipment.

1.4310 is usually heated to 1150 °C - 1180 °C to allow for forging at temperatures between 1200 °C and 900 °C. Forging is followed by air cooling or water quenching if there is no risk of deformation.
