Titanium Grade 5 is a titanium alloy for primary forming of forgings. 3.7165 is the EN designation for this material. Ti-6Al-4V is the common commercial designation. The ASTM designation is Titanium Grade 5.
Among forged titanium, it has a relatively low density. It also has a moderately high heat capacity and a relatively high melting temperature.
Titanium sheet 3.7165 is used in particular for the manufacture of structural and engine parts, but also for fastening elements in aviation. Titanium Grade 5 mesh is highly corrosion resistant and is therefore suitable for use in maritime environments, in the surface treatment industry and in the deck equipment industry. The material is mainly available in the annealed condition, but can also be treated up to a temperature of almost 350 °C.
Titanium Grade 5 is very resistant to general corrosion and pitting. Chlorinated solvents should be avoided. Titanium is also susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement, so it is important to limit the oxygen supply during heat treatment or chemical pickling.
