Of the four commercially available purity grades of titanium, Grade 2 is the alloy of choice for most industrial applications requiring good ductility and corrosion resistance.

Titanium Grade 2 fabric has a lower density and is therefore highly desirable in areas where weight is an issue. Medical and aerospace are two key industries for titanium alloys. Due to its strength and corrosion resistance, Titanium Grade 2 is also well suited for applications in the marine, chemical processing and desalination industries. Typical applications for Titanium Grade 2 include oil and gas components, reaction and pressure vessels, tubes or pipe systems, heat exchangers, linings, flue gas desulphurisation systems and many other industrial components. Continuous service temperatures can be as high as 420°C, occasionally as high as 530°C.

The corrosion resistance of titanium Grade 2 is based on a strongly adherent, stable and protective oxide layer that forms in the presence of oxygen. Grade 2 offers excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and atmospheric sea air. Titanium Grade 2 is resistant to attack by wet chlorides and metal chlorides, chlorite and hypochlorite solutions, nitric and chromic acids, organic acids and many gaseous industrial applications.
