The main alloying component of alloy 30hgsa is chromium. It increases the heat resistance, corrosion and oxidation resistance, strength and heat treatability of the steel. Manganese increases strength, improves hardenability, notched impact strength and reduces distortion during hardening. At the same time, it increases grain growth and reduces plasticity. Silicon increases elasticity, but at the same time reduces toughness. Nickel and copper contribute insignificant amounts of 0.3 % each to increasing hardness, wear resistance and structural homogeneity. Nickel, manganese, chromium and carbon increase the strength of the steel during cooling.
The melting point is 1500 °C. It determines the difficulty of casting and the high temperature resistance.
The corrosion resistance is low. Prolonged exposure to high humidity can lead to corrosion on the surface. This property should be taken into account when selecting alloy steels. In some cases, corrosion resistance is increased by galvanising the surface with zinc and chromium. The electrolysis process is used to obtain such a surface.
