If you need dysprosium, buy it from the Auremo online shop at favourable prices.

Dysprosium is a chemical element of the yttrium subgroup, a rare earth metal. It has a silvery colour that is characterised by a matt sheen. Dysprosium oxidises slowly in air and does not dissolve in water. It hardly differs in its properties from other lanthanides. Dysprosium is contained in small quantities in phosphors, magnetic alloys and special glasses.

Dysprosium is a base metal and is very reactive. In air, this metal becomes coated with an oxide layer, in water and in diluted acids it dissolves to form hydrogen. Dysprosium and holmium have the highest magnetic strengths of all elements at low temperatures.

Together with vanadium, dysprosium is used in the production of laser materials. Due to the high thermal absorption cross-section of neutrons, nickel oxide dysprosium cermet is used as control rods in nuclear reactions. Dysprosium in combination with cadmium is used as a source of infrared radiation, which is used to study various chemical reactions. As dysprosium is very susceptible to magnetisation, it is used for various information media, especially CDs.

    Properties of dysprosium:

    • reactive metal
    • When exposed to air, it becomes coated with an oxide layer

    Main application of dysprosium:

    • Control rods in nuclear reactors
    • Shielding material in nuclear technology
    • Material testing technology
    • Capacitors
