The material CuZn39Pb3 is the reference material for machining with a machinability index of 100%. It is therefore the perfect material for applications where machining or shaping is required to ensure maximum productivity and tool life in high-speed repetitive work. In addition, it also has excellent hot forming properties, making it ideal for parts that require subsequent sophisticated machining. The material 2.0401 is also perfect for the production of parts that only require free machining operations.
Free-cutting brass has poor resistance to organic substances and neutral or alkaline compounds. In comparison, homogeneous α brass has satisfactory corrosion resistance due to its microstructure. Stress corrosion cracking and dezincification, especially under conditions such as warm, acidic water and ammoniacal atmospheres, should be taken into account, all the more so if the material is not in a stress-free state.
