In contrast to pure titanium, grade 2 can be hardened. The general mechanical properties are much better. Due to the low specific weight of the titanium alloys, they offer a very good ratio between mechanical load-bearing capacity and weight. This material is therefore mainly used in areas where the weight saving justifies the use of an expensive material. The material titanium grade 2 forms a very well adhering oxide layer which is quickly re-formed even if damaged. Thanks to this oxide layer, grade 2 titanium has very good corrosion properties. At higher temperatures, the adhesion of the oxide layer is significantly reduced.
