Incoloy 800 (UNS N08800, W. No. 1.4876) is a widely used material for the construction of equipment requiring corrosion resistance, heat resistance, strength and stability for operation up to 800°C. Material 1.4876 offers general corrosion resistance to many aqueous media and resists stress corrosion cracking due to its nickel content. At elevated temperatures, it offers resistance to oxidation, carburisation and sulphidation, as well as fracture and creep resistance.
Incoloy 800 is used in a variety of applications exposed to corrosive environments and high temperatures. In chemical and petrochemical processing, the alloy is used for heat exchangers and other piping systems in nitric acid media, especially where resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking is required. In nuclear power plants, it is used for steam generator tubes. The alloy is often used in household appliances for the sheathing of electrical heating elements. In the production of paper pulp, heaters for cooking liquor are often made of the material 1.4876. In petroleum processing, the alloy is used for heat exchangers that cool the process stream with air.
