Material 1.4742 is a ferritic stainless steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. The properties given are reasonable for the annealed condition. The material 1.4742 is the EN number designation for this material. X10CrAlSi18 is the chemical designation of the EN.
The 1.4742 material has a fairly low electrical conductivity among wrought ferritic stainless steels. Also, it has fairly low ductility and moderately high tensile strength.
The stainless steel 1.4742 has a scale resistance of 800 - 1000 °C. This stainless steel is resistant to oxidizing and sulphurous gases. This alloy is also characterized by good resistance to carburizing and low-oxygen gases.
