The material 2.4816 belongs to the class of nickel-chromium alloys. As the name already suggests, the alloy has a high nickel content of over 72% and a considerable chromium content of approx. 17%.
The material has good resistance to oxidation, carburization and nitriding. The good mechanical properties at both low and high temperatures characterize this material. The main use is in the chemical industry. But 2.4816 is also often used in the production of heating conductors and capacitors. Thanks to its high temperature resistance, the material is used in aviation to build turbine parts and in the nuclear industry to build reactors.
The two main alloying elements give this material a very high resistance to stress corrosion cracking at elevated temperatures. The resistance to dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride is good.
The soft annealing should take place at a temperature range of 920 °C to 1000 °C. When using the material in the higher temperature range with good long-term properties, high-temperature solution annealing at 1080 °C to 1150 °C is recommended. Cooling must be accelerated, preferably in water.
The material can be welded using all conventional methods.
