The material 2.4816 belongs to the class of nickel-chromium alloys. As the name suggests, the alloy has a high nickel content of over 72% and a considerable chromium content of approx. 17%.
The material has good resistance to oxidation, carburisation and built-up edge formation. This material is characterised by its good mechanical properties at both low and high temperatures. The main application is in the chemical industry. However, 2.4816 is also frequently used in the manufacture of heating conductors and capacitors. Due to its high temperature resistance, the material is used in the aerospace industry for the manufacture of turbine parts and in the nuclear industry for the construction of reactors.
The two main alloying elements give this material very good resistance to stress corrosion cracking at elevated temperatures. Resistance to dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride is good.
Soft annealing should be carried out in the temperature range from 920 °C to 1000 °C. If the material is used in the elevated temperature range with good long-term properties, high-temperature solution annealing at 1080 °C to 1150 °C is recommended. Cooling must be accelerated, preferably in water.
The material can be welded using all conventional processes.
