Description:
The element cadmium is a soft, tough, pliable, divalent metal. Cadmium ingots are easy to cut. Cadmium is similar to zinc in its chemical properties. However, cadmium is not as active as zinc. At normal air temperatures, the surface of cadmium is coated with an oxide layer, which makes reactions more difficult. Most reactions take place when heated.
Cadmium is used to produce hot-rolled and cold-rolled cadmium ingots for electroplating steel, copper and aluminium products. The products manufactured in this way retain their technical properties in rooms with high humidity, in seawater and in contact with electric current.
Cadmium ingots are a multi-component material that contains predominantly cadmium in its structure and is doped in small proportions with lead, copper and other elements that influence the technical properties of the anodes.
This element and its compounds are highly toxic even in low concentrations.
