Properties of iron powder: flowability; compactability; deformability;
Main uses of iron powder: Engineering; Construction; Industry; Chemistry;
Iron powder is a collection of particles of steel, alloys and metal-like compounds up to one millimetre in size that are in contact but not bonded together. Iron powders are used as a starting material for the production of cermets.
Iron powders are classified according to their chemical composition, shape, size and bulk density. They have a large specific surface area and therefore tend to absorb moisture and oxygen, which leads to quality losses.
Special requirements apply to the storage of iron powder: recommended storage temperature 15 - 25 °C, protect from moisture. The material is stable under normal ambient conditions and under the temperature and pressure conditions expected during storage and handling.
Welding electrodes and alkaline batteries are made of iron powder. Iron powder is needed as well as a reducing agent for organic products. The printing and chemical industries cannot be imagined without it.
