Nitronic® 60 (Alloy 218, UNS S21800) offers very good corrosion resistance and wear resistance at very low cost compared to cobalt and high nickel alloys. The overall corrosion resistance of Nitronic® 60 is better than 304 in most media, the resistance of Nitronic® 60 to chloride corrosion is better than 316, and the yield strength at room temperature is almost twice that of 304 and 316.
Nitronic® 60 (Alloy 218, UNS S21800) has excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures and good impact strength at low temperatures. It is widely used in the electrical, chemical, petrochemical, food, oil and gas industries, including wear plates for expansion joints, wear rings for pumps, bushings, process valve stems, seals and recording equipment.
Nitronic® 60 stainless steel round bars can be welded using conventional welding processes. Tungsten-argon welding is possible and the welded joints have a wear resistance comparable to that of the base metal; tungsten-argon welding and suitable filler metals are also possible and the welded joints have a slightly higher strength and durability than the base metal. The grinding performance is slightly lower than that of the base material.
