The material 1.3912 or Invar® 36 is a low expansion nickel-iron alloy and this alloy has 36% nickel. It maintains nearly constant dimensions over the range of normal atmospheric temperatures and has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures to about 260°C. The alloy retains high strength and toughness even at cryogenic temperatures. 1.3912 material is a nickel-iron alloy with a thermal expansion rate approximately one-tenth that of carbon steel at temperatures up to 400°F (204°C).
This alloy was used for applications where dimensional changes due to temperature changes need to be minimized, such as B. in radio and electronic devices, aircraft controls, optical and laser systems, etc.
Invar® 36 can be welded using conventional methods. Care must be taken not to overheat the molten metal. This eliminates molten metal spatter and indentations in the weld area.
The pipes made of the material 1.3912 are corrosion-resistant in a dry atmosphere at room temperature. Under unfavorable conditions, ie in a humid atmosphere, corrosion can occur in the form of rust.
