AISI 321 is an austenitic steel. The reason these grades are used is that carbide precipitation does not occur even at temperatures of 425 - 900 °C. AISI 321 is used in applications requiring high strength bonding, incrustation resistance and phase stability at temperatures in excess of 900°C.
Annealing conditions to AISI 304 and this property is ideal where post weld annealing is not desired operating in the 425 - 900°C range. In hot environments with acid, capillary cracks are in the internal structure of the material like AISI 304.
It is possible to work at 900°C intermittently and at 925°C continuously. The material 1.4541 has good oxidation resistance. This stainless steel performs well between 425 and 900°C and shows good corrosion resistance, especially in aqueous environments.
AISI 321 has excellent capabilities in all welding processes. Various welding processes can be used to weld AISI 321 and 347 materials with 347 rods.
