Nickel wires made of material 2.4066 are neutral to aggressive media, including acids and alkalis, because they form a protective film. The limiting temperature at which nickel wire retains its composition and structure is 1455 °C.
Nickel wire is used in acids at low and medium temperatures. The material can withstand heating up to 320 °C in sulfur dioxide, up to 350 °C - in contact with potassium and sodium hydroxides, up to 540 °C - in hydrogen, fluoride and chloride media.
