Terbium Metal Nugget Tb 99.9% Element 65 2 kg
Terbium is a silvery metal and, like gold, soft enough to be cut with a knife, making it a malleable and ductile substance. It also resembles lead but is much heavier. Terbium is one of the rarest rare earth elements and the 57th most common element in the Earth's crust. Terbium oxidizes slowly and reacts with cold water. It is quite stable in air and also quite corrosion-resistant. The melting point of terbium is 1365°C and its boiling point is about 3230°C.
Terbium has few but very important applications. Alloyed with zirconium oxide (ZrO₂), it serves as a crystal stabilizer for fuel cells. It is also used in the production of solid-state devices and energy-efficient light bulbs. When alloyed with other metals, it can help create metallic films for magneto-optical data recording.
Properties of Terbium:
- Quite corrosion-resistant and stable in air
- Good malleability and ductility
- Ferromagnetic
Main applications of Terbium:
- Solid-state devices
- Pole shoes for magnetic lenses
- Material testing technology
