Description:

Stainless steel 1.4301 is the standard of austenitic chrome-nickel steels. Among the steel grades, austenitic stainless steels are the most well-known and most widely used. In addition to a chromium content of about 17%, they contain nickel. It is the nickel content that enables the austenitic structure, which promotes corrosion resistance. In fact, the absence of a second phase - such as martensite or ferrite induced by deformation - favors corrosion resistance.

The material 1.4301 is widely used thanks to its excellent intergranular corrosion resistance, good cold formability and deep drawability, and good weldability. The alloy 1.4301, X5CrNi18-10 is corrosion resistant at high temperatures up to 300°C, but can also be used at very low temperatures, such as for cryogenic applications. In the soft state, 1.4301 is practically non-magnetic. Cold hardening by rolling or drawing is relatively low, so that the spring properties, such as in 1.4310, X10CrNi18-8, cannot be achieved.
