The material 2.4663 is a solid-solution-strengthened nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy. It has excellent high-temperature strength and good oxidation resistance. The material 2.4663 shows excellent resistance to a variety of corrosive media. Sheets made from the material 2.4663 can be well formed and welded using standard methods.
The high nickel and chromium content makes the alloy resistant to a variety of reducing and oxidizing media. Aluminum combined with chromium provides oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Cobalt and molybdenum provide solid solution strengthening.
The combination of good strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures above 1000°C makes the material 2.4663 an attractive material for components such as ducts, combustion chambers, and transition liners in both aviation and stationary gas turbines. Due to its resistance to high-temperature corrosion, the alloy is used for catalyst grid supports in nitric acid production, heat treatment baskets, and reduction boats in molybdenum refining. The alloy 617 also offers good properties for power plant components.
