The material 1.4860 is particularly characterized by its high specific resistance and its relatively favorable price compared to other nickel-chromium alloys. Despite the relatively high iron content, this alloy is resistant to oxidation and chemical corrosion. It is suitable for high-quality electrical resistors and heating wires for all applications, including heating strips and heating cables. The maximum operating temperature in the air is +600 °C for resistance wires and +1,050 °C for heating wires.

The material 1.4860 possesses good ductility after long-term use, good mechanical properties at high temperatures, and good weldability.
