    Neodymium (Nd), atomic number 60, belongs to the group of lanthanides and is one of the most frequently used rare earth metals. It is versatile and is characterized by special physical and chemical properties.

    Properties:

    • Density: 7.003 g/cm³
    • Melting point: 1024 °C
    • Electrical conductivity: 1.56 - 10⁶ S/m
    • Thermal conductivity: 17 W/(m - K).

    Chemical behavior:

    • Relatively stable in air
    • However, forms a flaking oxide film

    Reacts with water to form hydrogen and neodymium hydroxide, well soluble in dilute sulfuric acid, burns at 150 °C to neodymium(III) oxide.

    Neodymium is used in aluminum-magnesium alloys for aerospace, in high-quality steel and titanium alloys, in the manufacture of neodymium-iron-boron and neodymium-yttrium-cobalt magnets, in solar glass as neodymium(III) oxide, and as a catalyst in the production of polybutadiene rubber.
