Zirconium is a non-toxic, soft, silvery-white, shiny metal that is easily flammable. Zirconium is widely present in the Earth’s crust, but usually only in small quantities.

Zirconium is a silvery-white, shiny metal. It is very quickly passivated by an oxide layer and is therefore corrosion-resistant. Zirconium has a high melting point, is easily flammable in powdered form, and burns with a flame similar to magnesium. Zirconium is non-toxic and occurs in small amounts in the human body.

Zirconium sheet is relatively soft, so it can be rolled and forged well. This metal can also be machined by material removal; however, it should be noted that fine shavings and dust are easily flammable. In the compact state, zirconium does not burn.

Because zirconium produces bright light during the combustion process without forming fog, it is used to manufacture flash powder as well as fireworks and signal lights. In nuclear technology, it is used due to its permeability to neutrons, and accordingly in devices where absorption is to be prevented.
