Tungsten Wire Ø 0.02mm-2mm 99.95% W Pure Metal Element 74 Tungsten Pure Wire
Tungsten wire – highest melting point of all metals (up to 3422°C), very high density and tensile strength, low thermal expansion, paramagnetic, good corrosion resistance. Used in lamp filaments, X-ray tubes, heating elements, thermocouples, and shielding. Available from Auremo.
Length tolerance +/-2mm
ATTENTION! The wire is shipped either wound on a different spool or in a coil/roll. If you want a spool, contact us—at an additional cost we will ship the wire on a spool. The photos show spools with 2–3 kg of wire.
Description:
Tungsten wires are characterized by their robustness, especially by the highest melting point of all metals and the highest tensile strength. This makes a thin tungsten wire very efficient. Also noteworthy is the high density of 19.3 x water, comparable to that of uranium and gold. This high density also means a high absorption capacity for radioactive radiation and X-rays.
Tungsten is used wherever high temperatures are required. In the literature, values between 3387 and 3422 °C are reported. To boil tungsten, temperatures of about 5555 °C are required. Depending on the diameter, tungsten wire achieves high mechanical strengths. It also has very high stiffness and a low thermal expansion coefficient. Tungsten is paramagnetic, meaning it is attracted by a magnet but does not act as magnetic itself.
Properties of tungsten wire:
- very high melting point and low vapor pressure
- very high density
- very high heat resistance
- good corrosion resistance in acids and metal melts
- low thermal expansion
Main areas of application for tungsten wire:
- lamp filaments
- X-ray tube anodes
- electrical switching contacts
- heating elements
- shielding
- thermocouples
