Refractory hafnium has a melting point of 2000 °C and a boiling point of 5400 °C. Its density is 13.28 g/cm3. Due to these physical properties, hafnium is often used to produce high-strength and heat-resistant materials in metallurgy, as well as an alloying additive to obtain new strong, thermally stable, and rust-resistant materials. Pure metal is ductile and can be formed by hot and cold deformation; it is easy to weld and can be used to manufacture particularly critical metal structures, assemblies, and parts.

Titanium alloyed with hafnium and its alloys are used to manufacture critical components of ship engines, to obtain high-quality weld seams and improve the corrosion resistance of metals. By adding just 1% of this metal to aluminum, lightweight and very strong alloys can be obtained.
