Refractory hafnium has a melting point of 2000 °C and a boiling point of 5400 °C. Its density is 13.28 g/cm3. Due to these physical properties, hafnium is often used for the production of high-strength and heat-resistant materials in metallurgy, as well as an alloying addition for obtaining new strong, thermally stable, and rust-free materials. Pure metal is ductile and can be hot and cold formed, it is well weldable and can be used for the production of particularly critical metal structures, assemblies, and parts.

Titanium alloyed with hafnium and its alloys are used for the production of critical components of ship engines to obtain high-quality welds and improve the corrosion resistance of metals. By adding only 1% of this metal to aluminum, lightweight and very strong alloys can be obtained.
