Material 1.4310 is a weaker version of 1.4301, which has a metastable austenitic structure due to the combination of high chromium and limited nickel content, which hardens very quickly during cold forming. Since this steel is used to manufacture spring components, the final microstructure contains a significant amount of martensite due to shearing and is therefore relatively magnetic.
1.4310 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and formability. This steel, with average workability and mechanical properties, has excellent weldability.
The main application areas are the automotive industry, various corrosion-resistant spring components, the chemical industry, the food and beverage industry, and electronic equipment.
1.4310 is typically heated to 1150 °C – 1180 °C to enable forging at temperatures between 1200 °C and 900 °C. After forging, air cooling or water quenching is used if there is no risk of deformation.
