The material 1.4301 (304) is the most widely used and versatile stainless steel worldwide. It offers excellent formability and weldability. The austenitic structure of 304 allows deep drawing without intermediate annealing. It is used for various purposes in fields such as architecture and the automotive industry.

The corrosion resistance of sheet metal made from stainless steel 1.4301 is very good under normal atmospheric conditions. In hot, acidic environments, the material can form capillary cracks and voids in the internal structure, and when the temperature rises above 60 °C, stress cracking may occur.

Stainless steel strips made of 1.4301 show good resistance to oxidation in environments where the temperature is continuously 925 °C and temporarily increases up to 870 °C. However, corrosion resistance decreases when the environment is aqueous and the temperature is between 425 and 860 °C.
